Sonatine (1993)

Genre: Action Crime Drama Thriller

Director: Takeshi Kitano

Cast: Takeshi Kitano, Aya Kokumai, Tetsu Watanabe, Masanobu Katsumura

Review: This movie starts off painfully slow and doesn't improve very much as it goes on. However, it does have several parts that are quite funny, but it is unclear whether it is supposed to be funny or if it is just plain bad. There seems to be a concentrated effort to have no reaction whatsoever by the characters during the most violent parts of the film, which is a bit strange. Overall, it could be said that this is a very bad movie that is also unintentionally entertaining at moments (much like the Evil Dead series), so for you die-hards out there looking for something different, this could be for you. -JNJ
