The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Review: The Royal Tenenbaums is a story about a good ol' American dysfunctional family. The patriarch of the family attempts one last effort to bring his family together after years of separation. This film was pivotal in making Wes Anderson a household name, and deservedly so. It features the strongest cast of any Anderson movie to date, and the actors all perform admirably. Ben Stiller's role is of note because it is the closest he has come to playing an actual dramatic character. Gene Hackman, Luke Wilson, and Gwyneth Paltrow also turn in some of the best performances of their careers (and that's saying a lot). If you have yet to enjoy a Wes Anderson flick, this is a good one to start with. -JNJ
