An American Crime (2007)

Genre: Crime Drama

Director: Tommy O'Haver

Cast: Ellen Page, Hayley McFarland, Nick Searcy, Catherine Keener, Ari Graynor, Scout Taylor-Compton, Tristan Jarred, Hannah Leigh Dworkin, Bradley Whitford, James Franco, Evan Peters

Review: An American Crime is based on events that took place in 1960's Indiana. It's definately one of those stories in which truth is stranger than fiction and is a scary example of peer pressure and maybe even a small mob mentality. The characters were almost horrified in the aftermath of what they had done in contributing to the crime and yet seemed to take pleasure in it at the time. Catherine Keener is perfect for the role by portraying the creepy single mother very effectly. Ellen Page is also very good and appears strikingly similar to the real Sylvia Likens. This movie stays true to the facts for the most part and is probably the best-told account of this grisly chain of events. Highly recommended, but be prepared, this is a very emotional movie. -JNJ
